This one got it on vinyl back in 1970, and his copy wasn't new. Cool man! When you said you “just played Interstellar Overdrive” did you mean from that same vinyl record?

Not this time, as I was at work. However, I can do that. I still have the vinyl record, and the apparatus to play it (Garrard 401, SME, etc.) Unfortunately my Sugden amp is having age issues, so it would sound aweful, instead of awesome. It needs to go home to Cleckheaton for a bit of R&R. I already did that once, many years ago. They're happy to keep the old stuff running. And in case of power cuts, I can play 78's on my clockwork machine. This post has been edited by ghastley: Feb 14 2018, 09:37 PM

Mashinky having recently revitalized my long held fascination with railroading and steam locomotives I of course was eventually compelled to hear two well respected "classical" works written by composers who were themselves rail fans. Both are short works which do a good job of immolating the feel of steam in motion. These particular performances are paired with video footage from the steam era. Heitor Villa-Lobos: Bachiana Brasileira Nº 2 "O trenzinho do Capira" (Sometimes translated as Little Train of Caipira or something similar.) Arthur Honegger: "Pacific 231" (2-3-1 is the wheel arrangement of a certain type of steam locomotive.) The shame is that I never payed much attention to either of these before, never realized what fine music they are, as well as being a heck of a lot of fun to listen to. Too bad I didn't realize this when my hearing was still up to snuff. Better late than never, I suppose.

Jeremy Soule has done it again. What an immensely talented musician. There is a recently released album of his called The Northerner Diaries that was apparently funded through a kickstarter, and I happened to stumble across it a couple days ago on YouTube (along with some other videos that I found particularly applicable to my life, but that is talk for another time). And it is phenomenal. I listened to the first track, Njól, at least 15 or 20 times. But when I finally got past it, there are plenty of other fantastic tracks. Now Vetr, the penultimate piece, is my favorite of the album. But the whole thing is incredible. You can even hear little bits of Skyrim in it. Thank you for the wonderful music, Mr. Soule. Greatly looking forward to whatever else you put out. It's cool to hear other projects of his outside of The Elder Scrolls. You can find the album here.

An excellent piece from an excellent game. Divinity II (Flames of Vengeance DLC)- Market SquareYou should listen to the whole thing, but what really makes the piece is from 1:10 onward. It sounds like a completely different piece from the first part. The point I heard it for the first time also helped really sell the tune. As if right on cue, I looked out from inside the magic shield surrounding Aleroth as Damien and the Black Ring laid siege and that part of the song played. I was just about ready to stop playing at that point, but when that part came on I had to sit there for a couple minutes to listen to it and look up at the enemy firing away. Very cool moment. I can't really describe the feeling I get from that part of the tune. I wish I could find more like it.

Welp, it’s that time of year again and St. Paddy’s is right around the corner (Saturday), so that means it’s time for more Irish tunes or tunes by Irish bands, or both! Today we were going to go with Finnegan’s Wake by Drop Kick Murphy’s, but since that hardly seems appropriate now, Khajiit decided to go a different direction... Salty Dog by Flogging MollyEnjoy!
