Well poot! Got an automated call from Entergy. Power will be shut off for four hours beginning 9am tomorrow while they relocate power lines in conjunction with road work. Had I known this yesterday I would have moved errand day from today until tomorrow.

Woke hours before dawn early Sunday to a mild bass rumble and faint pulsing light from somewhere outside. Looked out the living room window. Saw a large fire engine parked on the road directly in front of my house, its dome shaped top light producing a pulsing red glow. Other than the dome light and a few weak safety lights the vehicle was completely dark. No one was in its immediate vicinity. Turned my eyes right. Saw a car-size vehicle at the intersection with several pulsing blue lights. People were standing next to it.

Those vehicles stayed there for ages. I nodded off at some point. Woke while still pitch dark. They were gone. But...several pickup trucks were paused on the road in front of my house. They didn't stay long.

When it finally became light enough to see I ventured outside. Saw no oddness anywhere nearby. No idea what might have happened, if anything, during the night.

So, you said it was a try out, did you mean you had to try out to join the gym or they were offering a free beat down to see if you wanted to join the gym?

Real talk though, I have wanted to learn some form of martial arts. Haven't really had the time to devote to it though. But I don't know what would be best for somebody of my build anyway, since it is my understanding that some styles are better suited to people of different frames, sizes, etc.

But yeah man, I highly recommend you do it. If you’re among the big bois like I am, I recommend the grappling arts — Judo, BJJ, Russian Sambo, Shuai Jiao etc. They’re easy to ease into and honestly? IMO they’re the best base from which to branch out into other unarmed systems; the grind mentality they build into you is something else in particular, my good dude, even compared to other martial arts. That’s how I feel anyway though, so you know.

But it’s kinda weird you haven’t heard of BJJ tho. Shuai Jiao I can understand, since it’s a niche sport within niche sports but BJJ is like, global man. Ah, the circles of life I suppose. If I’m right in assuming you’re from the States, then you shouldn’t have a problem finding a BJJ gym. Best of luck and god speed!
