You can actually get .999 fine silver but it's soft as all get out and I wouldn't recommend it for jewelry.

It'd probably make you look like a cheapskate, silver right now is worth 87 cents per gram, compared to 62 bucks for gold, 76 for palladium, and 30 and change for platinum.

Don't let the platinum price fool you. It's denser, and you need more of it to make an equivalent item. it ends up costing more.

24 karat gold is also too soft to make jewelry out of.

That said, I'd worry less about what people think of you and more about what you think of her opinion.

I'd be offended by something expensive. Especially if money is regularly tight. I had no engagement ring for my current marriage. My last one was amethyst rather than diamond.

Unrelated side note, my dad's got covid, as does his 98 year old friend.

Saki, I hope your dad and his friend recover okay.

I have a titanium ring and am very pleased with it (cheap, looks nice, weighs nothing, indesdructible).

Emerald is fabulous. If I were you I'd aim for something like palladium or platinum over white gold. You have to replate it every so often or it looks bad among other things. Higher maintenance.

And yeah, titanium is a bit darker though. I'm really liking my titanium band. And, it didn't break the bank. I was ready to pay out the nose for something else. lol.

I'm sure dad'll be fine.

His friend is asymptomatic but tested positive. My problem is that if she develops symptoms it's likely to kill her, she's 98. I'm being realistic here. Woman's fragile as all get out now, it's only a matter of time, unfortunately.

Gonna miss her any way she goes. She's a really nice lady. Even if she can barely remember me(Alzheimer's).

Yeah it's been a bit chilly lately. Waking up to 5-8 degrees C isn't fun. We had to turn on the heat a few weeks ago. Supposed to be 5 tonight. Yay.

I made some fingerless mittens too and they're getting a bit of use. :3 my hands get cold.

Well we are about 2.5hrs car ride inland so storms are only rarely hurricane status by the time they reach us, but we do tend to get a lot of evacuees fleeing the coastal areas. At risk of sounding like a snot, evacuees aren’t always the most pleasant. Given the circumstances of their being here, I should probably cut the unpleasant ones a little slack, but I just feel that if you are being taken in by another community during stressful times, maybe you shouldn’t act like a total jackass?

Well, if I get help from strangers when I'm in dire need, I'd sure be thankful.

Unfortunately, that sentiment is not universal.

You'd think people would stop living in hurricane prone areas. But no, they get their house chewed up, rebuild, repeat. Then whine about how much insurance costs.

Speaking of insurance, need to up our policy. I'm here and my junk isn't free to replace! Our homeowners policy is garbo.
