I never really got into shooters. DOOM specifically gave me the creeps.

I always loved the atmosphere and ambiance of Doom 64. Though I don't think its been officially stated but I think Doom 64 is the prequel to Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal as a lot of stuff line up.

They are. 2016 is a reboot of the first game and Eternal is a reboot of Hell on Earth, the second game. I guess they wanted to expand and tie the games together or smthn.

Well some evidence that might link Doom 64 to Doom 2016 & Eternal are:
In D64's ending your character stays in Hell to Rip and Tear any demons from flooding back into "our reality" again.
In Doom 2016 you're pulled from Hell and revived on Mars by the UAC.
There's a small version of the Mother Demon in Olivia's Office.
Records of "Doom Guy" fighting the legions of Hell in....well Hell.
Then there's the Unmaker you can unlock in Doom Eternal.

On the Doom thing, I actually see two different story lines. One with a regular human marine and one where he's become the Slayer with superspeed and strength. Same plot but in two different dimensions kinda. Just my brainwork though.
