Well poot,

Decided to shut down the PC early tonight, select a new book to read on the Kindle, and retire to the sofa for the night. Except no sooner had I fired up the Kindle than it flashed a LOW BATTERY message at me. Sure enough, it was at 10%. Not enough to make it through the night and during whatever reading I'll get in tomorrow morning before breakfast. Since I haven't yet bought a wall adapter for the Kindle, I returned to the PC, fired it up, plugged in the Kindle, and have been putzing around on the web ever since. Instead of retiring early, I'll retire appreciably later than usual. Which means I prolly won't get in much reading time before falling asleep.

Were my right hand not messed up, I might have elected to read a print book and hold off recharging the Kindle until tomorrow. As it is, I'm pretty much limited to Kindle reading for the near future. Therefore, here I sit until the Kindle's light changes from orange to green.

ADDENDUM:
Now Tuesday morning, I survived my 'tragic' ordeal . . . LOL. I was right in that, by the time I retired to the sofa, I got in only a few minutes of reading (after having decided 'what' to read) before nodding off.

Back in the day we didn't need to charge our books, but we did need to look out for papercuts. I guess this is one of those swings and roundabouts

Didn't the kindle come with a charger?

I feel you though, cat ate the iPad charger and now we gotta buy a new one.

Unless you spend extra for a 'Kindle bundle' of some sort, the Kindle Paperwhite comes standard with only a USB-to-micro USB cable that allows ebook transfers, and acts as a charger so long as you have a device with USB ports that provide charging function. At least that's how my Kindle works. Amazon just launched a Paperwhite update. So far as I know, it too relies on its USB cable to charge out-of-the-box.

Weird! I guess they assume everyone has one of those little USB blocks that phones *used* to come with.

Which is why Nintendo doesn't include power adaptors when you buy a mini. It's like they think EVERYBODY has a smartphone that came with an adaptor.

My ebook reader didn't use the same connector as a cell phone.

It came with a charger. I'd recommend not using a cell phone charger, might not have the right voltage or something.

That said, the damn cat ate the spare iPad cord we found.

No cable now. They're super thin, she probably bit it in half inone chomp.

And most chargers these days are bricks you plug the USB transfer cable into.

I'm quite surprised they cheaped out.

Cheapy cheapy chirp cheap.

Well, I may have figured out what that screen in my lobby is for. It might have to do with the new washing machine room they built this year. I think you use it to book one of the machines. It's like that in my brother's place.
