The Continued Adventures of Decrepit Man
I've participated here even less than normal lately. Reasons are several, one being that I simply have little worthwhile to contribute these days. (Hasn't that always been the case?) Added to that is a new episodic health concern that began this past Friday. I ended up in ER for it Saturday, but was released that same day. It's plagued me off and on ever since, with sometimes multiple episodes every day, save one. I'm keeping a chronicle of them, which is up to four full pages now, in preparation for a PCM followup visit this coming Tuesday. Here's a cut-and-paste of my initial episode. Bear in mind that it's a rough-draft and will be thoroughly revised before my appointment.
"Friday afternoon, 24 Jun 2022, circa 1300: Was lying on my right side on the sofa reading, as is common for me. Needed to slightly reposition myself to relieve arm soreness, Doing so, the room suddenly began swaying, akin to being at sea in a rowboat during rough weather. Grabbed the sofa backrest, which I was facing, to keep myself from moving to compensate for nonexistent room sway. This went on some time, or so I assume, being in no condition to check the clock to my rear.
Once the phenomenon subsided, I let myself calm for a bit, then sat up. Was slightly dizzy, so stayed seated a minute or so. Tried to stand. Partway up, my legs stopped responding, dropping me to the sofa. Rested maybe half a minute. Attempt two fared no better than its predecessor. I’m not sure how many failed attempts were made ere I at last rose to a fully erect stance. My legs were now somewhat wobbly, but usable.
It should be pointed out that during all this I felt perfectly fine, except for the events described. My mind was as semi-alert as ever. No chest pains of any sort. Blood pressure, pulse, and blood oxygen, measured immediately afterward, were fine. No fever.
Had this occurred one day earlier, or even an hour sooner. I’d have immediately called my Primary Care Manager for advice. Alas, the clinic closes noon Friday’s and is not open weekends. I decided to keep an eye on things and call the clinic’s separate Urgent Care section should either another episode occur or aftereffects develop.
What actually happened is that wobbliness and minor dizziness faded over time. By suppertime, 1600, I was my normal decrepit self, and remained so until falling asleep post 2100 that evening."
There you have it. I've now formed a better idea of what I suspect is triggering these episodes, which ER had no explanation for other than Vertigo, which is an effect, not a cause. It's very inconvenient that episodes trigger while lying down, since that's how a pass a good portion of my day. On the other hand, at least I need not worry <crosses figures> of having an episode while at the computer, on my morning exercise-walks, or driving.

QUOTE(Acadian @ Jun 29 2022, 02:00 PM) That's no fun, Decrepit!
I had a similar experience several years ago. In my case, my doctor diagnosed it as Benign Positional Vertigo and taught me some maneuvers to 'fix it'. It seems to have worked since I've not been troubled since. Might be worth googling that diagnosis and see if the info is of any value.
Thanks! I looked it up. It does closely mirror my symptoms. One factor not present in the article I read is that, in my case, my neck has been killing me, more so than usual, for a while now, predating these episodes. Sometimes one side of my neck. Sometimes the other. Sometimes the back of my neck at the spine. Even when my spine (at the neck) isn't hurting, it's awfully stiff, which is new. For good or ill, I hadn't realized the possible connection between neck pain and Vertigo episodes while at ER, so didn't mention my neck. Having suffered from neck pains off and on since 1981, I tend to ignore them unless they trigger a migraine, as occasionally happens. This said, I readily admit that neck pain might well be purely coincidental. (The article I read places the cause on ear issues.)

Dang it Reaper. You're fine. I don't usually post til late evening +2 GMT so it's not that bad. You didn't kill anything. Board often goes dead after I post, too. I just paid a hundred bucks to change a flight because my friends vacation time was rescinded. Missing Liverpool waterfront light up week now.
