Does anyone know anything about this?

https://elderscrolls.bethesda.net/en-US/oblivion-remastered

I haven't got time atm to read about OB remastered. Wonder which platforms the remaster is on?

And the greatest question of all for some of us: Does this mean the game uses more than one core, no tricks?

Yep it was released today. Looks purty! Should be for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’ll probably go to PS5 also. It is basically the old Oblivion Gamebryo engine with Unreal Engine 5 slapped on top of it to make it look prettier. They did make some minor changes to the gameplay to make it a bit more “modern”.

Based on the pictures I've seen, the potato heads are definitely gone. Characters look excellent!

This was one of the things I was most curious about. I’m going to withhold my judgement until I see it in action. Some of the faces in the clips looked a little… off, to me.

it does look good but I'm years into a heavily modded game to switch now. I am tempted though.

I am thinking the same thing as macole. I have tweaked Oblivion to how I want it. But I am curious to see what this new version is like. It might be a nice alternative that I could go to alongside the original Oblivion. It is not like I would have to stop playing that after all.

It looks like the PC version is Steam only however. So I might wait to see if it comes out on Gog. That will also give time to learn more about how the new game actually works, and what the modding is like for it. A very quick look shows there at mods out for it already. But I have no idea how the modding is actually done for it. My guess is that it would be the same as modding any Unreal 5 engine game?

I think that's a feature, lol. By all accounts, the game is still running on the Gamebryo engine with Unreal graphical rendering and physics tacked on top.

Modding is the other thing I was very curious about. It uses the same basic engine so could it use the same mods?

I saw modders in reddit saying anything that doesn't require OBSE will work.

Now that is really interesting. I just assumed that they recreated the game entirely with Unreal 5. Which lets face it, would make for a more reliable game. Engine design was never Bethesda's strong suit.

But if it still has gamebryo underneath, and most of the original mods still work... Well then, that actually makes it a lot more attractive to someone like me, who has a ton of self-created mods.

Not to derail, but how did you get into modding? Playing around with the CK, or did you use guides? As my Skyrim modlist grows ever larger, I've thought about learning basics to curate it more to my own tastes.

No, alas. OBSE doesn't work and all graphics are of a different format. It is possible to make mods for it but you cannot copy-paste old stuff. And Bethesda doesn't want to support mods -> LINK.

Not to be disagreeable, but I read that more as BGS Support won't help you with technical issues when you have mods installed. Which is reasonable.

Not to derail, but how did you get into modding? Playing around with the CK, or did you use guides? As my Skyrim modlist grows ever larger, I've thought about learning basics to curate it more to my own tastes.

The game Rome Total War is what got me hooked on modding. In that game it was relatively simple. Almost all of the game's data was in simple text files. So all you needed was Notepad, and you could edit the stats for any unit, building, faction, etc... So I started doing that, then I worked my way up to creating new units, new territories on the map, new factions, and so on. Eventually I created the Amazon Total War mod, which is a conversion that created four new Amazon factions, and made a lot of changes to the original factions.

When I started playing Oblivion it was because of the anime Claymore, which I loved. I saw that there was a Claymore mod for Oblivion. I had had the game already, but when I had tried to play it years before the computer I had was so old and slow that it was impossible to play it on. But by then I had a new, faster PC. Oblivion worked fine on it, so I downloaded the mod, and spent a month playing my own Claymore almost non stop.

From there on I started looking into how modding Oblivion worked, downloaded the Construction Set, and went to it. Now it is hard for me to play a game that you cannot mod. It feels very constraining.

I might start watching tutorials on my lunch. I attempted a few years ago to make a small Skyrim mod (tried applying the Voice of the Sky effect to Kyne's Token) but I couldn't for the life of me find the right magic effect in the CK. Ended up making a post on r/skyrimmods and a kind modder made it for me.

Lol, I first learned on Morrowind because my PC was too poopy to play Oblivion. Started off simply, just tweaking items in the construction set and then playing with how things are added into the game world.

Adding items to the world may be where I start. I already use xEdit frequently to customize armor/weapon stats and enchantments, so it'd be nice to make unique variants and stick 'em somewhere.

This is one of the better screencaps I've seen. Most of the content I find on reddit is still memes. https://i.redd.it/vzyoji1jyjwe1.jpeg
