So in coming up with new concepts for one of my infamous characters, I debated on the moral nature of the Nord Kormk Imajte. I asked myself on a scale from one to ten, how horrible is this man? Then this thread came to mind.
So Ill post my character, Kormk Imajte. Hes not a character one can sympathize with so easily, if at all. I dont plan on making him a character that has any outstanding noble qualities. Hes not an anti-hero and falls just short of being a complete villain. What I can say is that hes, of course, human in the sense of the word and has the worst of human emotions. Hes the Hero Killer of Kravens latest story and one of Kravens most terrifying antagonists.
That Kormk is a killer is not enough. Nord warriors are meant to be just like that. That Nordic society at large accepted glorification of violence and arbitrary might and honor and all that good stuff. So Kormk is simply raised in that sort of culture, but what he does with his power is what distinguishes him from my protagonist, Kraven/Lycus Desselius.
Id say he falls in the evil category because he has might, he has power and strength and he uses it to kill not as a means of survival or even in warfare or a sense of honor or glory, but to oppress others for personal gratification. Thats the worst kind. Evil acts can be done in war, battle, slavery, etc.
Though is it better to torture an enemy for information or torture a person just for the amusement of it? Killing of civilians and children for fun and because of a warped sense of power? Id say Kormk falls into this category. Because unlike my morally grey characters, his cruelty, pillaging and murders are pointless. There is no reason for it other than self pleasure and thats what bumps him up to the eight out of ten scale.
In my fanfic(that has yet to show this mans true horrific nature), he tortures and murders the small, frail and once happy people in burnt-down peasant villages and rapes women and little girls and he is the biggest monster in my stories so far. Hes one of the worst barbarian bandit and the truest monster in the sense of the word. Hes a murderer, a pedophile and just the man who others will want to be rooting to be killed.
I generally dislike over evilizing my characters. I always justify their actions and their own reasons for what they do and why but this guy has nearly none.
8/10

And yet I am, and live—like vapours tossed. I long for scenes where man hath never trod A place where woman never smiled or wept There to abide with my Creator, God, And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept, Untroubling and untroubled where I lie The grass below—above the vaulted sky.”
