Canīt you just press a button and skip the intro like in Simcity?

You can, but this means you have to wait until the intro actually shows up. You have to wait for several little animations (like the Maxis logo) come and go before the intro movie starts. This takes 20 or 30 seconds.
So in other words, if the intro movie is disabled, that's 20 or 30 seconds saved. I don't have to wait through those seconds to press a button on my keyboard, which means I can do something
else. I can nuke a meal or change clothes or whatever.

@Renee - Ehm.. nice pixies...? Not sure if I should go any further with this

I was trying to be subtle.

Believe me, the last thing I'd want to see is me (the producer of Ashe and Connie) getting fined right when the show's taking off.

That's my roleplay with Sims 3, by the way--I am the producer and director of their reality show.
It's such a great roleplay, too. I pretend my Sims have small earpieces (disguised as ear rings) equipped. Although they can do things on their own, I can also give them suggestions here and there. So (let's say) if there's somebody cute I want Connie to check out, I'll click on that Sim and off she goes.
