RP n00b, help! Options

ive never role played in a forum before, and i'd like to, but i just dont get how. a few questions i have:

-how do you check a topic for updates and reply quickly? refresh the page?

-is there a time that everybody should be on?

-whats a playground?

if these could be answered it'd be much appreciated

also maybe a guide to roleplaying? incase there are things i didnt think of?

Well I dropped out of the RP so I'm not sure where it stands at the moment. I can however, tell you that OOC means "Out of Character". This is used when making a comment that is not directly involved with the character or story.

Think of an RP as a story that everyone works collectively to build. Something to remember is that when performing an action against another roleplayer like attacking them, it is important to leave the outcome open and let them choose whether or not it lands.

Example
Good RP action: Jack swung his blade hard for Deagan's head in an attempt to strike him.

Bad RP action: Jack swung his blade and decapitated Deagan with a single stroke.
