Sere and I have already started talking about getting a more stable environment. Free hosting is just too unreliable.

Hardware failure followed by possible data loss as they rebuild the database. This one is not happy about it. Especially if we lose content. There was a lot of stories on there, and I hope folks backed them up.

I was thinking more of the fact that it had taken out multiple servers. Would love to know what happened, just for the sake of curiosity.

Looking at the support site, it seems they had a different hardware issue on Sep. 27th. I remember that one. About 2 hours of outage.

My thoughts as well. I have a feeling most folks back up their stories, which would be the biggest loss.

That said, I do find the thought that it might have affected the DiD competition amusing. Just because it would mean being resurrected

Sere and I have been chatting since yesterday. I PM'ed all the regulars through Bethsoft, but that's the best I can do.

We're seriously looking at a new host. Sere has a spare domain she can set up with a phpBB skin if we got that route.

The potential of the loss is what has us worried. If it happened once, it will happen again, and it's quite possible that they lost a good bit, based on how long it's taking them to restore.

I can't help thinking you're overreacting just a little bit here. I mean; "If it happened once, it will happen again"? You don't have anywhere near enough information to justify that statement.

I can't stress the loss of data enough, Thorny. The entire reason Haven was created was so that our story writers could flex their creative freedom without the restrictions of Bethsoft. If everyone's stories are dumped due to a host hiccup, that's a major deal.

Plus, if we could easily move to a more stable domain/forum, then why not? It will be put before the community before it happens, but it never hurts to plan ahead.

Based on that latest update from Zb, the prognosis looks good on the data.
