Awesome Crow. Though I've been playing Fallout 4 here and there gotta say I been really missing the familiar sights of the Capitol Wasteland.

There is a ton of things to find in the Commonwealth too, Renee! Bethesda especially knocked environmental story telling out of the park in Fallout 4.

"EnVironmental" storytelling? Wonder what that means? Guess I'll find out.

The little bits that tell stories with the way they are arranged. A teddy bear doing check-ups on other toys, or some skeletons that were fighting or watching tv when the bombs fell. The game is chock full of things like that and countless others. I played for years before finding beer bottles stuffed with notes along the shorelines: one of them even had a reference to the movie Die Hard!

The Gibson House is my favorite bit of environmental storytelling in Fallout3. Two skeletons lay on a bed with syringes nearby. It’s quite haunting.

I forget where it was now, but playing Skyrim a few days ago I found a dead troll under a bridge. There was no note on the body, but it wasn't a live troll that had been killed. It had been placed there dead by the developers. I am certain it was a nod to the same troll in Oblivion.

While I noticed the skeletons on the bed, I can't say I noticed the syringes. Will have a look-see this time.

oH my Lord! Gibson House = Minefield. So the question is, did these two commit suicide (or someone tried to make it look like they did) well before Arkansas took over Minefield, or not long after?

I assume that the skeletons in the Gibson house (and most other places) are from two hundred years ago. I suspect they committed suicide when the nuclear war started, or right after.

This has always been Khajiit’s assumption as well. I remember coming across it for the first time without any prior knowledge of what I was going to find. It really made me stop and think about it. Another instance that I found really well done was the end of the Dead Money dlc from New Vegas.

I thought Vera's holograms were haunting as well. Not in the least due to Laura Bailey's outstanding voice work. I can still hear her crying out: "Sinclair, SINCLAIR!"

Wow what a creepy hologram that would be. This thread seems more a Fallout 3/New Vegas thread, not sure if there's "day by day" thread for FO4. Anyway....

10.28.2287-- Jenn X still wanders around the Commonwealth but hasn't made much progress away from the opening areas of the game. She likes Abernathy Farm because there's a woman who trades and food to harvest, a little taste of the old days before the war. but Jen had an awful time exploring Concord. Mostly my fault; my reflexes are way off these days during combat, even though I've made great progress IRL with therapy. So... just taking the exploration of this game slow.

Some random observations...

1). I LOVE this game's Classical music station. Jen still wants grunge/punk (being a spoof of Generation X....) but I find myself and digging the soothing classical. Maybe because so far I haven't heard a song I recognize from TV commercials or store music.

2). Nuisance creatures are often more difficult to deal with. I'm particularly surprised mole rats really are moles, which burrow underground and scare the heck out of us when they BURST to the surface! 🐀

3). Super mutants don't automatically show up as red dots on the compass! Dangit, that kind of sucks. Raiders still track immediately as enemies though. We witnessed an awesome battle between a raider and a mutant not long ago; Jennifer taking potshots at both from her hiding spot.

mirocu: Thanks. Knew there had to be a FO4 thread, just couldn't see it. ohmy.gif

Kane: That's exactly what I did the day after discovering Oblivion in 2008--called in "sick" to work so I could game out all day!
