Good tunes mALX!

I am now listening to Harmony Steel - Coming Home

That is fractal music, I love it! Did not know you liked fractal!!!

My favorite is Phil Thompson's Organised Chaos album, (Phil was the creator of the Gingerbread music system for computers).

He uses mathematics to create music, it is pretty awesome.

I've been battling a nasty inner ear infection for the better part of two weeks so have done no music listening to speak of. Prior to that, this has been a year of Beethoven piano sonatas for me. I'm a long time classical music fanboy. Beethoven is my musical god, and in my opinion one of the most fascinating individuals to have walked the face of the earth. Yet for whatever reason I never became acquainted with his 32+ piano sonatas beyond the most renown . . . until late last year. At that time I bought an SACD set of the complete sonatas played by Ronald Brautigam on fortepiano, the piano as Beethoven knew it. Since then I have spent much of my listening time becoming familiar with them, and must say I count the experience amongst the best of my adult life. My most recent accomplishment is coming to truly love the Hammerklavier rather than just admire it greatly.

Relatedly, I enjoyed Andras Schiff's lecture-recital series on individual Beethoven sonatas, available at YouTube.

I do of course listened to other things, almost all classical, mostly at YouTube.

Ouch! I had a viral infection in my ear once as well. I could hear just fine, but made me feel dizzy all the time. It took months before I was over it.

Yeah, between infection and the meds prescribed to combat it I'm even more loopy than normal. What bugs me most is the liquid trapped in my ear. Quite painful when it sloshes against what I assume is my right ear drum. Feels something like a wasp sting at those times. Meds were supposed to remove the liquid, but didn't work. I called ENT late this afternoon. They are able to work me in first thing tomorrow morning.

As to music, I forgot to mention I ordered a disk of Beethoven violin sonatas off Amazon. It arrived just as my ear infection set in. I have therefore not yet bothered to listen to it, other than the teaser sample at YouTube which led to my placing the order. Also, one of my favorite Beethoven piano sonata interpretations, a live filming of Maurizo Pollini performing the third (final) movement of sonata No.26 "Les Adieux".

I'm not terribly familiar with classical music - most of my knowledge stems from the movie Amadeus. However, I do enjoy the richness of the compositions. Besides Mozart, my taste tends to run towards the later composers, most notably Chopin. But Beethoven has my undying respect, because like me, he was deaf. And he was most prolific after he lost his hearing. I guess because he composed by feel, his music is easier for me to appreciate. I certainly enjoy what I think of as the "left-handedness" of his compositions.

Oh, and welcome to Chorrol, decrepit!

Your comment reminds me that I need to buy Amadeus on DVD. I saw it at least three times during its initial theater run, and soon afterward purchased a copy on the old laserdisc format. Only, my LD is stereo only and worse, pan-and-scan. I detest pan-and-scan. I liked the movie so well I didn't feel like waiting in hope it would appear in a wide-screen LD edition. Or rather a letterbox edition, that being how we saw wide-screen films at their original aspect ratios on standard ratio tube sets back in the day.

As to hearing, I have severe loss in my right ear and profound loss in my left. (Up until maybe a year and a half ago my left ear was the better of the two.) Thankfully loss at the low-end reminds relatively 'mild' or slightly worse. Just over 2khz and it drops like a rock, reaching -85db or thereabouts in my worse ear before 8khz. Nasty tinnitus too.

Music wise, today I listened to another favorite rendition of Beethoven's 'Les Adieux', a live filming of Ronald Brautigam performing on a fortepiano much closer to the sound of 'modern' pianos than the instruments utilized on his SACD set. Bringing things full circle, here's a very short Mozart work that to me sounds amazingly modern.

decrepitus, your audiogram looks so much better than mine! Mine starts at 90 db at 250 Hz, drops down below 120 dB (I think that's as loud as the machines go) at 2-4k Hz, then creeps back up to 95 dB or so at 8k Hz. And that's both ears!

Listened to that Mozart gigue. Loved it - typical Mozart. To me it sounds sprightly and fun, and that's why I enjoy his compositions so much. Except maybe for his Requiem, though it is an amazingly rich piece to listen to.

I often listen to classical music when doing jigsaw puzzles. Makes me feel like an aspiring homicidal (but intelligent) maniac laugh.gif

Holy sweet nostalgia, Batman! blink.gif

I havenīt heard this song in years and I actually found myself tearing up listening to it because of all the memories it brought up! It was hot on the radio during the time I watched The Hills (for Audrinaīs sake biggrin.gif ) so it was perfect timing there. The memories of the show, what I felt, what I thought, when work was fine etc.

By god, I love this song!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Eh, it's nice, but there's something about it that rubs me the wrong way. I've got pretty sensitive ears, and that low note kind of irritates somehow.
