Damn it! I wanted to know how long that bloody skill takes to hit 100. Somebody must have done it.

Thanks anyway!

I'll post how long it took me in, like, 2026. biggrin.gif

There is no set time to raise skills in Oblivion. It depends on what you do to raise it. Like Mirocu did, I used to raise mine by selling arrows one at a time; just to get it up high enough that I could invest in stores so the merchants would have more money to deal with. Then I cut way back and sold in clumps so the skill wouldn't raise too much after that.

In Oblivion, the skills are raised by usage; so the more items you sell to a merchant, the quicker your skill level will raise. The first 25 level increases come easy, like for every 10-25 items your skill goes up. Just like any other skill in Oblivion, the higher your skill level is, the more usages it takes to bring it up. So if you are dedicated to bringing it up to 100, you have to grab as many arrows as you can find and sell them one at a time (because arrows don't weigh much and you can carry a bunch, plus they are found almost everywhere).

Ok, I tried whipping up a little mod that marks Roy Phillips as evil (so you don't get bad karma for killing him). It also should disable Three-Dog's comments on the radio for killing him. But I have to test it of course.

QUOTE(mALX @ Mar 19 2015, 10:44 AM) *

He called me scum the other day for killing those ghouls in the Warrington Station; but then went back to praising me for saving Grayditch - which was done way at the beginning of this game, lol.

Really kills me that they give you bad karma for killing the ghouls; and 3 Dog talks bad about you publicly for it - but if you do that quest any other way the ghouls take over and kill all the other residents. You are supposedly good for siding with the ghouls against the residents, (and letting all the residents get murdered by your decision); but you are considered evil if you side with the people and save their life - that makes no sense to me.

The way Bethesda did that quest makes no sense whatsoever to me; so I just do what is best for me in it, regardless what 3 Dog says about me for it. And now that I've found a way to have a home there and at Megaton, really glad I did. Did not want to live in a placed with dead bodies in the basement and surrounded by the ghouls that put them there.

I usually just never do that quest one way or another, because of how backwards it is. Sure, the Tenpenny Tower residents are racists who hate ghouls, but that hardly justifies killing them all. If you had been able to talk them into letting ghouls in, and then it ended there with no one being murdered, it would have been a great quest. Hmmm, maybe that could be fixed by modding the quest?

** That music in NV is actually right on for that area of the US back in the day; just like the music in Fallout 3 was correct for back in the day for the DC area - but it is all some kind of time warp thing, because the music and clothes are from @ the 50's, but the setting of the game says it is in the future from our present day - kind of like an alternate reality of our own world.

Whoever thought that up was brilliant; because we can see these things/hear these songs in our own history before the game came out; so it all rings true.

I am not a huge fan of the 50s music either, but as you said, it fits the setting to a tee in both games. I do especially love how FO3 used "I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire" in it opening titles. laugh.gif I have thought about replacing the songs with other music in FO3, but could never bring myself to actually do it. It just would not feel right, even if was songs I liked better.

That alternate future you mention is one of the neat things about the Fallout Universe. It is like the world never evolved past the 50s, even though in reality over a hundred years went by between then and the Great War. Everything is big, nuclear energy is everwhere, it is like a visionary's idea of what the future would be like, if that visionary lived in 1950. There is a neat (and chock of of info) article about it on the Fallout Wikia.

Oh what a great link! I've never seen that before, and it has background on all the DLC too! I can't read it all in one sitting, but bookmarked it so I can keep going back to read it, thank you for the link!

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Mar 19 2015, 12:07 PM) *

I don't think 3 Dog ever says anything bad if the player takes the ghoul side in the Tenpenny quest. I guess he thinks genocide is fine, so long as the victims hate ghouls...

I just took a look on the Nexus, and there are several mods that semi-fix the quest so that the humans don't all get slaughtered. But it looks like in all of them the human merchants all leave the tower, which I don't really want.

No, I agree - they paid for their homes, and should be able to stay in them comfortably; and why should the long term established merchants all have to leave to make room for ghoul merchants?

My idea for a solution was for someone to make a replica of the Tenpenny towers (not to be confused with the Twin Towers) and call the second one "Ghoul Hilton" - then alter the quest so Tenpenny agrees to house ghouls in the abandoned other tower if they want to fix it up (and pay, of course).

That way no one is killed; the ghouls move in and take up residence in the previously abandoned tower; then the Player can buy from both the human tower merchants and the ghoul merchants - and the player gets good karma for the negotiation; the people and ghouls all live.

I have numerous times considered removing any negative dialogue about the Player 3 Dog may have to say regarding this quest because it is screwed up from the word go on how it was done.

Just a side note. I fixed Grayditch but 3Dog still says itīs aaaall quiet. I know itīs a glitch of some sort, kinda like in Oblivion where they stop commenting on certain skills after some of them reach 100 dry.gif

Pip Boy recording app ON. Date: 09/14/77 8:47

My name is Cho Zen-Wahn. I am one of the outcasted members of Vault 101, and today, I start my special journal. I have modified my Pip Boy, with what was once called an 'app'.
People long ago had apps right on their communicating devices, which were either known as cell phones or smart phones. Break.

Anyways, these words are recorded as I am speaking them, and saved to my Pip Boy's modified hard-drive. Later, I will upload them onto a special recording computer, which will be stored as data, for somebody to read someday. Break.

As an outcast of Vault 101, I must thrive to survive. Tough world out here. Lot of people want to take me down. But I must press on. I must find where my father went. For he is all that matters. I can't go back to Vault 101. I just can't. They won't even open their doors for me, and good thing, because last time I saw them, those [censored] were all shooting at me. Break.

An evil man in a town called Megaton, which happens to be very close to 101, claims to know where my father is. But he wants money. Lots of money. And I don't have any [censored] money. So I am doing some quote / unquote research for somebody else in Megaton. Her name's Moira. Kinda cute, but not my type. Moira wants me to ---- ahhh [censored].

unidentifiable sounds ... recording app unable to decipher ... 10 seconds .... 20 seconds...

[censored] just got attacked! [censored]! [censored] raiders holed up at Springvale Elementary! Caught me off guard! They see a man wearing the colors of Vault 101, and they started taking shots! .. I blew the leg off of one, damn right I did. Other guy is is ... still shooting at me, but from a distance! Hold on.

unidentifible sounds ... recording app unable to decipher .... 10 seconds ...20 seconds ... 30 seconds....

Ahh, that one .. I will let him live. Too far away. Can't take him out with my rifle. Too far. Break.
`

Anyway. I am assisting this rather pugnacious lady. Moira Brown, she calls herself. She wants me to look for some mirelurk lair, and put this stupid device in ... where they spawn. Probably won't even [censored] work, but hell, she's paying me caps.

Pip Boy recording app off. 9/14/77 15:56

Once you take Bryan to Rivet City, there is no one left in town (unless you take advantage of one of those three abandoned houses and move in!) - so I'd say it IS real quiet!

But I agree, once 3 Dog announces how you saved little Bryan and found him a new home in Rivet City - He really shouldn't be repeating the old stuff. Like after you kill the behemoth and meet him, why does he keep repeating that he heard someone else crawled out of the vault - did someone fart: That has been cleared up once he meets you, so he should stop cycling that old news.

That said, if he could only talk about current stuff, then I guess he'd still be dis'ing me for being a ghoul hater!

@ Renee - Yeah, another person going through FO3 with us! Woo Hoo !!!!

Cho has Apps! laugh.gif

Hecate has been busy filling the underworld with new residents (no not that Underworld in the D.C. Ruins, the other underworld... wink.gif). Yesterday she agreed to help Moira study Mirelurks. But on the way to the Anchorage Memorial she was accosted by a kid whose town had been attacked by Those. And well, the next thing Hecate knew she was shooting ants. Lots and lots of ants. But when it was all said an done the ants were no more, and Hecate was the proud recipient of a perception boosting mutation.

But Hecate couldn't leave the kid there all alone afterward. She had to find a home for him. She she headed off to find Rivet City. Naturally one thing led to another, and along the way she found Arlington. One Luck bobblehead later, and she was slugging it out with the Red Chinese army in Mama Dolce's. Hecate won the war all over again for Uncle Sam, and left with a Chinese uniform to put on her desk back home as a trophy.

She eventually did make it to the memorial, and was able to plant Moira's spy camera with no problems. Working her way down the Potomac from there, she finally reached Rivet City, but only after numerous fire fights with raiders and mutants. Now she is off to find the kid's aunt Vera.

Mama Dolce's is pretty fun. Marge was there once. I am really getting addicted to Fallout 3 all over again.

Sometimes we (Australia) even get games coming out before the US due to America being soooo far behind on the date calendar! Sometimes I swear it feels like Jan 3 when I see the Times Square New Year celebration on tv. Lol.

Well, I did finish it in the past, with Wasteland Maxical, lol.

Ha! I already knew that the question would not apply to you! Very few wrote and gamed with more passion than you over the last five years (well maybe Rosa, of course). So a little question like 'have you finished Broken Steel' will never be for you. biggrin.gif

Speaking of that Ben is happily causing chaos through it right now. The A3-21 and the Missile Launcher are so hot in his hands that he thought he might have to drop them. Lol. I really love the 'new' ending to FO3, it is much better than the first attempt in 2008. He has just left the underground area and entering the base.

Wasteland Maxical. What did she end up looking like? Did she have Maxical's personality? Hand grenades in other people's trousers must have got her kicked out of Megaton, no?

Renee, great to read the app about your character. Very neat.

It makes me wonder why Beth didn't use the Ham radios more in the game. It would have been really cool to catch emergency broadcasts from near and far across the wastelands.

They should have teased us like in Borderlands. Perhaps a huge vault full of caps (or teddy bears or garden gnomes) could have been our reward for switching on every radio and parking meter.

In the vanilla game your character dies, and the game does end. There was a huge uproar from fans, so Bethesda fixed it with the Broken Steel dlc. It revives your character (you didn't die after all, just passed out for two weeks), and lets you play indefinitely.

So what did Obsidian do when they made Fallout New Vegas after all that? They didn't kill the main character after the main quest, but they still end the game and don't let you play any further. You have to start a new game with new character to continue playing. *This is why we need a facepalm smiley on this forum*

This struck me when I wrote that, because now if you go to the Mojave the music is no different than it is anywhere else; but there was a time when music marked a region clearly and recognizably. I found these on youtube, the south (where I live now) and out west/Mojave:

Southern:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNBc4snTaqc

Western:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qcO19R8Jys

Actually, where I live now still plays some Bluegrass; and a lot of Country-Western music; but with a much more modern sound and a bent toward trying to crossover. I don't know if Western Swing still exists as a strong local flavor out there; but you can hear the roots of the songs from NV in these sounds.

The drainage ditches all have ham radios that you can turn off; they are originally on so you can triangulate them. Like Mirocu, I'm always wondering if I touch them anywhere I find them that something will happen, lol.

Wasteland Maxical was no prankster, although a few frag grenades found their way into pants it was always people like Roy Phillips that deserved it (in her mind). She was still plenty uncoordinated, though; and not the brightest bulb in the Wasteland or Mojave. A little too naive and trusting, but a staunchly loyal friend - those sides of her never changed.

The Reilly's Rangers quest, Anchorage, Vault 101, Mothership Zeta - can't remember them all, but there are more - all start with picking up a radio signal.

I like that way of starting a quest too, but there should be some way to triangulate it to find the quest like you can with the drainage ditch radio signal. The one for Anchorage was blasted loud and clear no matter where you were in the Wasteland, and it didn't get stronger or weaker by your movements so there was no way to really track it down except by clicking on that quest and following your arrows - which are totally screwed up and useless after Point Lookout.

For the most part Hecate has been doing Moira's quests these last few days. In the one that took her to Rivet City, she stopped by the Science Lab and talked to Dr. Li (and picked up the Intelligence bobblehead). Since Dr. Li has seen Dad and said he had gone to the Jeff Memorial, Hecate went there afterward and cleared out all the muties. Dad's tapes said he was off looking for Dr. Braun somewhere in the west. This is all without talking to Moriarity in Megaton, or with Three Dog at GNR.

So just a little while ago Hecate is in the DC Ruins and comes to Chevy Chase for the first time. You know, where always meet Sarah Lyons? Well she and the Lyon's Pride were nowhere to be found. Instead Hecate took on all the mutants on her own. Even when she got to GNR there was no sign of Lyons. The behemoth did show up, and he was lot tougher, since that dead BOSer with the Fat Man was not there (I guess he must spawn with Lyons).

When Hecate went to talk to Three Dog, he didn't try to hold Dad's location over her to get Hecate to get the dish. Instead he bargained with the location of a secret pre-war cache (Hamilton's Hideaway). That was interesting, I never had it happen that way. I had never been to the Jeff Memorial before talking to Three-Dog, so obviously his dialogue is dependent upon the status of the quests. I wonder if Sarah Lyons wasn't there because I had been to the Jeff as well, and had advanced Scientific Pursuits (the quest to search for Dad)?

Thanks for the links mALX. Wow, Porter Wagoner, that is some trippy stuff. I have never seen that before. But trippy in a good way. I like!

Ahh, good to see that some things will always be a part of this world. And I guess that VATS did help that.....slight....aiming problem we saw in Cyrodiil. laugh.gif

Yes, it probably does happen like that. I have never hit Chevy Chase without letting the MQ lead me there. I must try that one day. I did do the Hamilton quest line one time. It was cool that 3Dog opens up different dialogue depending where you are and who you are (sometimes with a speech check).

Ben is raiding the Air base now. I had a funny moment happen before. Ben was shooting at one of those turrent things on the roof when the Mysterious Stranger decided to help out. He appeared on the edge of the roof gutter 100 feet up and destroyed the turrent for me. Then he half fell off the edge and started to free-fall when he finished his animation and disappeared!
