Lopov doesn't mind, mirocu. Matter of fact, I think we're encouraged to bash the guy. *click* Pipboy App ON: Date: Saturday, 01.02.78, 12:24 AM
Hey I'm back here, and I'm with Star Paladin Cross. Finally got your name right. Star Paladin Cross: Thank you. Some crazy [censored] just went down. Okay, let me explain. Break.
I'm walking along near Megaton, minding my own business, when I get this alert from my Pipboy. It's a radio transmission from Amata. Now, I haven't seen or spoken to her, or anyone else in Vault 101 for weeks now. Amata is one of the people me and dad left behind. So this is crazy right? I get this automated message from her, saying to stop by. Break.
So we stop by, and I wasn't too surprised nobody wanted to see me back. Oh, I saw Officer Mack, we saw Officer Taylor, and Officer Wilkins, we saw the whole gang. They were alll "happy" to see me back. Even the Overseer. Yeah, the Overseer. Apparently he was not dead. Well..."was" is an appropriate word here. Because now they're all dead. Break.
That's right, they all had to die. Wasn't my fault, either, I was playing it cool. Asking questions, tasting that perfect, non-radioactive water they've got down here. Well all I want to know is "how is Amata doing?" Because quite frankly I miss her. Maybe she might even want to come back outside with us. Well, I hate to say this but one of the officers attacked me first, HE attacked ME first. I was playing cool. But I had no choice, but to attack. And you know what? [censored] 'em. I'm so sick of this bull [censored]. Break.
The Overseer wouldn't let her leave, or anybody else leave. Well, let me back up a moment. Apparently there's been some sort of *unidentified word* down here. Vault 101 split in half, psychologically. Amata and a gang of others, including Butch the tunnel snake guy, have holed up somewhere down here, and are calling themselves "rebels". They want out of here, apparently, but that [censored] Overseer wouldn't let this happen. Yeah, crazy, right? Break.
Marge programmed this new "sleep" mode into my Pipboy App, so that I don't have to keep turning it on and off. I'll put it to sleep while I look for Amata.
Pipboy App Sleep Mode ON ... Stay tuned for Part II of Return to Vault 101! This post has been edited by Renee: Sep 4 2016, 04:33 PM

Rattler deserves all the bashing and I'm not upset, not at all, in fact such comments are a proof that Rattler's personality is depicted "well". @Renee - Cho is back home! Not that much remained of his home, right? Like SubRosa, I also like this quest a lot. My first character Ronny managed to convince the Overseer to ... (I don't recall it anymore but it was a peaceful solution). Billy Bob, on the other hand, already killed the Overseer when escaping the vault, and the new Overseer (ex-officer Mack) couldn't be reasoned with at all, so B.B. killed him as well. I think that this quest has the most possible outcomes of all FO3 quests though some choices during the tutorial affect choices during this quest. __ Today we got a lot of rain in our country, and the smell of wet weather mixed with soil reminded me of a character I created in the summer of 2015 - Ally Gator. Maybe some of you still remember her, she got quite a lot of positive comments regarding her makeshift mini-nuke bra-armor. To sum up - Ally Gator is a drifter from Louisiana who came to the Capital Wasteland in search of possible love and new adventures. As it turned out, she found plenty of both. Though she didn't stay in the Capital Wasteland for long, she helped the Outcasts complete the Operation Anchorage simulation, and afterwards she continued east where she came upon the ferry Duchess Gambit that took her to swamps of Point Lookout. There she played a major role in local events - she ended the years-long personal battle between two pre-war scientists, and most importantly, met Nadine, the love of her life. After taking over the Duchess Gambit, Nadine as a ferryman and Ally as a guard, the girls continued transporting passengers back and forth between the Capital Wasteland and Point Lookout, and they also made a contract with several wasteland merchants to sell them Punga fruits, plants unique only to Point Lookout. When tidying up her cabin on Duchess Gambit, Ally found a cursed book Krivbeknih, and remembered a promise she gave to missionary Marcella - to forever destroy the cursed book in halls of Dunwich. As such, the girls sailed back to the Capital Wasteland, where Ally is already walking towards the Dunwich to fulfill her promise. ___ Pics in the screenshot thread.

Here is all is: I have also been trying to pay attention to the names of everyone in the Vault, and looking them up on the Wikia. Its a tangled web of familial relationships. We all know about Butch's mother because saving her from the roaches is one of the first things you do. But this time out I finally figured out that you end up killing the family members of the other two Tunnel Snakes during the breakout. Paul Hannon jr. is a Tunnel Snake, and his father is the Security Chief you run into on the Atrium second level. Wally Mack is the third Tunnel Snake, and his brother is Stevie Mack - the guy torturing Amata. Their father is Allen Mack - the guy with the red ballcap you see through the glass on the second floor of the Atrium where you fight Security Chief Hannon. He's pounding on the glass saying its all your father's fault. If you kill the Overseer in the tutorial, Allen Mack becomes the new Overseer.

Lopov: I don't remember much about Ally, but man am I glad to meet her. Acadian: Pipgirl? Buffy don't need no steenkin' Pipgirl. QUOTE(SubRosa @ Sep 4 2016, 12:27 PM) This is one of the most interesting quests, IMHO.
I thought so too. Not only are we reminded of all the interactions between the 101 dwellers, but there's also just a lot of information to take in, a lot of stuff to think about during this quest, and there are multiple outcomes too. In fact, I did this quest twice, because the first time I did it, the outcome wasn't what Cho would have wanted at all. So I did it again (a rarity, I am usually a "live with it" kind of gamer) because I felt he did not get all the information he possibly could, to make an informed decision. The first time I did this quest, nobody got in Cho's face at all. No one tried to pick a fight, but the overall outcome was not what Cho would have wanted. The second time we did this quest, the end result was about 50% what we would have wanted, because this time one of the guards attacked Cho, for no apparent reason. And so I lived with that, this time. Close enough. This post has been edited by Renee: Sep 5 2016, 03:54 AM

QUOTE(mirocu @ Sep 5 2016, 03:29 AM) . Why ever return to your former prison when the Wasteland has much more things to take and sell? I will answer for Cho here. In his case it's all due to perspective. They made him feel small in the vault, they made him feel like he'd be nothing once he was outside, so he gets this message from Amata (a dear friend to him as they were both growing up) and he can't resist going in there to see her again. But there's the perspective thing: he wanted everyone in there to see that he hadn't failed, I guess. "Look at me, you're welcome to come outside with me, too".

Hecate didn't have quite the animosity toward the 101'ers as it sounds like your characters did. She didn't consider Vault 101 a prison. It was her home, and her entire world, for most of her life. Sure, the Overseer was a paranoid megalomaniac served by half a dozen sociopathic and/or psychotic henchmen. But that was not everyone in the Vault. She did not blame the whole bushel for a few bad apples.
On top of that just like with Cho, Amata was Hecate's best friend. That alone was reason enough for Hecate to drop everything and return to the Vault. That is just the kind of friend Hecate is. So when she went back she tried to settle things by reasoning, and prevent any more deaths. Thankfully her Speech skill was high enough by then for her to pull it off diplomatically. She walked out of there feeling bitter, but she didn't blame Amata for exiling her. She understood that she really was a divisive element, and that ultimately the best thing she could do for everyone was to walk away.
Granted, I will admit that in spite of her namesake, Hecate is a very goody-two-shoes person. When Three Dog talks about fighting the good fight, she believes in every bit of it. Come to think of it, she is probably the most idealistic character I have ever played in a Fallout game.

8 Wanted dead or not alive
Commit a crime in wasteland wilderness and nobody’ll make a fuss about it. Such crimes won’t even be noticed - people die out there all the time.
Commit a crime in a small town like Big Town (when there still was one) and a few people might find out but not many will care.
Commit a crime in a city like Rivet City and not only will that crime be noticed, entire wasteland is likely to find out about it.
After leaving behind six dead bodies in the largest town of the Capital Wasteland, Rattler’s head became worth 10,000 caps and couriers were sent all over the wasteland to let people know of the dangerous man with the red bandana.
“He hasn’t been here yet,” said Lucas Simms, the sheriff of Megaton as he was handed the poster with Rattler’s pic,” I’d remember that dirty face if I’d seen him before. We’ll be on a lookout. If he ever comes close to our town, we’ll open fire without asking questions.”
“Yeah, I’ve seen him before,” said Chief Gustavo, the leading security officer of Tenpenny Tower,” he passed through the area. Is he really that bad? From what I saw…I mean heard, he’s good at killing ghouls. And someone that’s good at killing ghouls, can’t be that bad, right? Or can he? We’ll watch out for him, though.”
“Consider him officially the Enemy of the wasteland No. 1” said Sonora Cruz, the new leader of the Regulators. “We need to eliminate this abomination as soon as possible!”
And while raiders, slavers and Talon mercs feared Rattler, knowing they don’t stand any chance against him in a fight, some of them had to admit that the generous bounty on his head was very tempting. So tempting that a group of schemers met in an abandoned building and devised a devious plan – how to kill the rattlesnake.

Cool. This is my favorite Rattler story so far. I love all the comments from various people. I can just hear Lucas's casually droll voice, for instance. OH wow I didn't even think of this! So Speech can make a difference here. No kidding.

OH wow I didn't even think of this! So Speech can make a difference here. No kidding. Speech can make a difference in a lot of quests. Seriously, it can be a very handy. You can do things like talk the Ant-Agonizer out of her Anty ways, convince people to give you more money for things, or information, or stashes of loot, get the keys for Mr Crowley's quest, and so on.

@Acadian - maybe the real danger for Rattler are not bounty hunters but someone else. @SubRosa - now really, he can't be that bad, can he? @Renee - Megaton is one of the few wasteland towns / settlements which Rattler didn't visit. That's why their population is still at its peak. Not many stories left to post now so I may as well post one today... 9 Whom snakes annoy“Oh nice.” Rattler spat on the ground, his dirty face illuminated by burning fire that was consuming what used to be his den in the Capital Wasteland. Earlier today he left Paradise Falls, and while walking home, he noticed a fire atop the hill his shack stood on. Getting closer, he saw that not only the shack was on fire, but someone rolled a huge rock on it as well, shattering it beneath. Not that there was much to his shack, but it was my f*****g home. He stepped closer to the burning fire and lit a cigarette. “Even old Doc Hoff is missing,” Rattler said to himself as he noticed that someone snatched the late doctor’s corpse from the rubble pile outside the now ruined shack. Some other corpses were missing as well but the disappearance of Doc Hoff angered Rattler– it was his favorite corpse, after all. “At least Steve is still here.” The decaying body of some traveler called Steve, who made the last mistake in his life by traveling too close to Rattler’s shack, was still lying by stairs that once led to the den. But then something else struck Rattler’s eye…something white was sticking out of the corpse’s belly. Rattler knew that he didn’t place anything there so someone else must have done it! He came closer, and noticed it was a holotape. A f*****g note! Someone left me a f*****g note!He ported it over to his PipBoy and read: Does it feel good seeing your own shack on fire? Does it make you mad? Does it make you want to kill the one who did it? Then come and find me. I'm waiting for you in Old Olney, an abandoned town in the northeast.
Meet me there…if you dare.“Consider yourself dead, whoever you are! Deader than dead! F*****g dead!” Rattler threw the holotape on the ground and stepped on it, shattering it to pieces like the rock shattered his shack. Without a second thought, he headed in a northeastern direction. A distance away two men were hiding behind a pile of rocks, closely watching Rattler through binoculars. “I can’t believe it,” said the first one. “It worked! He’s already marching towards the Old Olney.” “The boss was right. He’s too dumb to smell a trap,” smiled the other. “Let’s go back to the compound and tell guys the good news. We better get ready in case he survives the deathclaws of Old Olney.”
