The Smith and Wesson 9mm was a Christmas present a couple years ago. The Assault rifle was bought last month at a gun market = it came with a box of 200 ammo! The old rifle is my husband's and that is his favorite pistol (revolver). We traded several of his assault rifles for two of our horses (one horse sold already).

It is a 45; Regent R200S (a 1911 from Turkey). It is hand hammered stainless steel according to the description of it. I am going to be testing it out this afternoon. Right now I like it better than my 9mm; but I haven't tried it out yet. The guy at the gun shop said it has a powerful kick.

I will take a pic of my husband's shotgun and post it later; didn't get a pic of it yet.

It is even prettier than the picture, it is AWESOME!!!! My husband and son both have been hinting they want it if I can't shoot it, lol. I hope I don't knock myself in the head when it kicks back, lol. I noticed grown strong men using two hands on it because when they used just one their hand jerked up really bad.

So it's a .45, not .45 ACP which is a bit weaker, right?

Mossberg. It shoots great! Mine (unfortunately) had the bad feeding magazine from Turkey that everyone on the internet said they had to replace on theirs; thank goodness all the parts for 1911's are interchangeable with American models!!! I will have to test it out again after that magazine is replaced.

I s'pose I could get a real CO2 version 1911 but I haven't found one I like enough.

I love the way the 1911 feels, and I was actually able to shoot it without taking my face out, lol. It was MUCH easier for me to handle than my 9mm; (which was brand new and needed A LOT of breaking in). Even after two years the 9mm is stiffer and harder for me to shoot than the 1911 was. (and kicks back as hard if not harder, but it is totally reliable on firing so it is still my 1st choice to carry right now).

The 1911 is so pretty that the picture doesn't do it justice at all. Also, I have seen a lot of vids of this particular gun/make and have yet to see any two people with the same hand grip as anyone else; not one! Every single hand grip in the pics and vids was totally different than anyone else's as if they just made each design/pattern once. Really cool.

I am bringing it to the Gunsmith to get the feed ramp totally polished and going to buy a couple new magazines for it.

We went to the shooting range with all our guns, and believe it or not my husband's ugly old 357 was the one that tore through the targets and hit the dirt hill WAY behind it = throwing chunks of dirt in the air after going through wood and traveling the long distance afterward! My 9mm may have gone through the target, but didn't hit the hill; neither did the 1911. I can't even lift that 357, it is a really old revolver and way too heavy for me.

Not surprised, mALX. It is the extra powder behind the 357 bullet (magnum) that gives it extra muzzle velocity.

It's good old mass x velocity = power. At one extreme, your 45 has high mass but a low muzzle velocity of about 810 fps. At the other extreme is a 5.56 military round that has barely the mass of a 22 but an astounding muzzle velocity of 3200 fps. Your 357 is medium mass with a high muzzle velocity of around 1500 fps. 9 mm is also medium mass but has a lower muzzle velocity of about 1000 fps.

Makes me think of the difference between the two rifles I've had.

The 9,3 X 62 dropped the deer like a knockout punch from Mike Tyson while the 7,62 X 63 didn't even though both hit where they should. Basically the same cartridge length but the bigger bullet is what made most of the difference I think. Haven't run the specs or anything but I wager the 9,3 because its slower speed gives off more of its energy earlier (combined with a larger wound canal) when entering but doesn't travel far, while the 7,62 goes deeper but doesn't give off as much energy as early, which may be why that deer could run off before bleeding out.

Seriously though = wow, I never realized all that or what would cause that much of a difference in shooting. I know the bullets for my 9mm are small, but make a good hole in the target = they just don't go real far after hitting it though. The 1911 has bigger bullets (much fatter and just a little longer) but they made a smaller hole in the target = but then didn't go far if at all after hitting it. Then Greg steps up = has to hand load each bullet in the revolver, and they are bigger length wise but about as narrow as the 9mm, maybe a little bigger = and he blows through the target and chunks up the hill WAY back in the field!!! I'll tell you this, it made me feel much safer knowing he carries that 357 with him all the time, lol.








I want one that gives the Mike Tyson knockout punch!!! (but without knocking ME out with the kickback, of course, lol). Do you have a pic of that one?

Sadly no. I traded in that one almost twenty years ago now and I never took a pic of it. It was an old rifle, Stiga brand, bolt action.

Oh, how pretty!!! Why would you sell the one that would drop the deer like Mike Tyson without the ear biting?

Had some problems with it, was a bit unreliable at times. Plus after a few years I wanted an autoloader which I still have. Browning BAR, great gun with a great trigger. Can't compare to the Stiga at all. Don't regret trading it in but wouldn't have minded if I still had it.

That is what I am hoping DOESN'T happen with my pretty pistol. Right now it is unreliable, I am going to take it to a gunsmith and hope he can make it reliable. I researched it on the internet, they said to clean and polish the feeder ramp and change out the magazines for better quality ones than the Turkish one that came with it.

So it doesn't feed the rounds as it should?

No, every other round isn't feeding right. I read on the internet that all these 1911's from Turkey were having that problem and it was usually the magazine causing the problem because the walls of the magazine made in Turkey are so thin that they are not stable to feed the ammo into the chamber.

It came with the three magazines, three grips, the lock and the case. It fires perfectly every single time, but it is VERY stiff still (we bought it new and have had it two (?) years (I'll have to check) = it still needs A LOT of breaking in).

On my new 1911 not firing failures every other shot = I called the shop I bought it from and he said bring it down and his gunsmith will polish the feeding ramp and look into a new magazine for it at no charge. I am bringing it to him on Friday.

I also think the bullets weren't the best, and trying to get ACP 45 bullets around here is a problem. I have to drive an hour to the place I bought my 9mm to get them. Making that trip this weekend if they will be open.

Why is .45 ammo so scarce where you are?

Can't answer this for mALX but I had a similar problem when I got the .22 magnum which is why I switched to the LR

It (.45) isn't scarce, but the .45 ACP ammo is (and that is what fits my gun). I don't know why it is scarce, there are tons of 1911 guns around.

I am having A LOT of trouble finding .45 ACP ammo here, really don't know why no one is carrying it. The box I got with the gun is really crappy ammo. (well, it has great ratings, but too many of the bullets are duds. My husband actually thinks the ammo is the whole problem with my new gun, but I'm not sure so glad the shop will look at it for free. The bullets that came with it were/are Slavic, and I never heard of the brand before). Two of the firing failures on those bullets have really deep nipples where the gun's hammer hit but they didn't fire. (kind of like that bullet in "Man on Fire.")

The shop fixed my husband's Remington 22 (as seen in the picture a while back) = it is now gorgeously clean and has a brand new firing pin.

Well lots of 1911s around could = a shortage of .45 ammo, I suppose. Especially if those other gun owners are shooting their guns a lot

Well, I can say with certainty that if the ammo is dodgy, that is a sure suspect as to why the gun isn't cycling the rounds. If the load is weak enough there will be issues. Good thing they took it in for free to look at it though

Well, it would sure be better if it was just the ammo being the problem. The guy is going to polish the feeding ramp and test it; then if he still has trouble he will either fix the magazine or replace it. I guess after that and if it works when it leaves the shop but not when I load it with my ammo = it might be the ammo. I know it is a totally unknown brand.

It's been a long time coming but my Ruger 5.7 has finally been fired. Watch this video many times my good friends cause I'm not going to be shooting this pistol very much seeing as 5.7 rounds cost $50.00 a box T_T .

Kinda like shooting hunting rounds of thirty ought; spensive.

It's not a cheap pistol to shoot that's for sure, but it was fun!

Anyway I think for my 45th birthday, I might buy me a .45ACP pistol since .45ACp rounds are a bit cheaper than 5.7 rounds.

I think the 5.7 caliber was mentioned in the old James Bond movie "Man with the golden gun" as an "irregular caliber"
