Minor play, minor update.

Started off just north of D.C and worked my way up to Canterbury, picking up things to sell along the way. Got to a place which always has a few Talons, scorps and ants and as it turned out this time; a Deathclaw. The last one having taken care of all the others, he was easily disposed of with Sydney's special 10mm.

Currently standing outside Canterbury after having sold off armor to Crow (not me).
mirocu
Started off due east of Tenpenny, beyond that outdoor cinema. Gunny was full of loot and so was I, to the point that after having killed off the raiders at the cinema I was overencumbered. As I didn't like the idea of walking all the way to Tenpenny I dropped the Vulcan and pushed it in front of me off the cliff. Then I grabbed it and held it in front of me while running to the tower tongue.gif

Made 2000 caps from this sale alone, and stocked up on goodies that I wanted. Still far from my next million but hey, I'm working on it! biggrin.gif
Renee
That's kewl. I've been gaming with Janet Telia again lately and we just discovered that outdoor drive-up cinema for the first time.
mirocu
Oh, that name rollinglaugh.gif rollinglaugh.gif

Btw, Telia is a company here laugh.gif
Renee

Wow, sure is! Telia Sverige AB.... looks like a telecommunications company.

Well, it's going to be sunny tomorrow, I'll be gaming with Janet then. She just crossed paths with Mirocu since both of them just passed the outdoor cinema. Tomorrow she should be headed to Nuka Cola Plant to take care of some 'bots.

This is kinda cool, having our characters in the same area at the same time just by sheer coincidence smile.gif

Won't be going to the plant though as I did that years ago and see no reason to return. Instead I'm gonna go from the shop just SW of Tenpenny up towards the train station and from there follow the western side northbound. This is one of my main routes I established a long time ago.
Renee
When I played FO3 on Xbox that is one facet of the world I did enjoy: once a location is cleared they NEVER come back. Which is pretty spooky. emot-ninja1.gif Really gave the Wasteland a lonely sort of feel. In my PC game though, raiders and other enemies do re-infest sometimes.

Janet is part of Talon Company, so she gets random assignments which send her to various locations. After leaving Nuka Cola! Factory she went to that TC outpost behind the library (whatever it's called). Up to Megaton, where she visited Silver. wub.gif Silver's one of her BFFs. tongue.gif

Pfft, Mirocu wouldn't know the diff; she rarely wears Talon gear (she's often undercover). He'd also possibly be swayed by her ... uh.. 'charms'.

Wednesday, 12.07.77 12:35 PM Today she's headed off to Megaton, where she'll probably pick up a new mission, which will send her off to D.C. to take care of a "goliath' supermutant. 👺 I can't tell you how psyched I am to assist!

Renee
Thursday, 12.08.77 10:113 PM Janet is in the Muddy Rudder > Rivet City. Funny. Cho's been to Rivet City dozens of times, yet he has NEVER even discovered the Rudder. huh.gif Had no idea this place exists on the boat.

That's one of the odd things about playing multiple characters, mirocu, when I really start RPing each one, they are times they do completely different things, and spontaneously too. It's not like I sat there thinking "Okay, she's going to explore the boat..."

Anyway, this'll be a good place for her because she's an alkie!
mirocu
This is weird. I was in the area of Rockopolis today and decided to go look for it as I haven't been there in ages. I did find it, but Argyle's body was nowhere to be found! I looked it up on the wiki and I know exactly where he's supposed to be and I do know I saw him when I first got here. No idea what has happened. I even did a bit of tcl but couldn't find him kvleft.gif
Renee
Rockopolis, never heard of that. Is that part of Point Lookout?

Have you ever been to the other DLC locations like Anchorage and Pittsburgh? None of mine ever have. Cho should probably do PL or The Pitt this summer. cool.gif I read about some 'inbred-looking swamp folk' in PL who brew moonshine and such, and that's got me curious.

December 21, 2126 ... 12:28 PM -- Stu Pitt discovers Shady Sands. He's walking around talking to people and so on. This game cracks me up. Since the guy's ST is pretty high he's really good at combat so far. But his INT is only 2. So everyone he speaks to is like "I can't understand what you're saying!" Stu Pitt isn't very articulate. laugh.gif

I really like the fact that we have to holster our weapons while trying to speak to civilized folks. They don't like it if Stuey's got a weapon in his hands while speaking.

Later.. Stu already got killed by a pack of mole rats. Goodbye Stuey. It's pretty tough navigating this game with a dumb oaf. Nobody could understand what Stu was saying, which really limits progress, I think. I might roll a thief next.
SubRosa
Rockopolis is part of vanilla Fallout 3. It is way in the south west of the map, up in the hills. It is really hard to find. It's just a little cave with a few things in it. But it is referenced in the Herbert Dashwood radio dramas. In the past there was a ghoul settlement there. Now most of it has been blocked off by a cave-in, and the body of Dashwood's faithful ghoul manservant can be found there.

No, and I'm surprised to learn you haven't been to Lookout! There's a woman there I have nicknamed Renee as I can sort of see you in her. Brewing moonshine and talking in an accent biggrin.gif

At least should be found kvleft.gif

Any idea how his body could have disappeared?

Edit: Reloaded a way earlier save and yes; Argyle is gone. Found the save where I first visited Rockopolis and he's there along with the bobblehead etc. No idea how/why/when his body disappeared.
mirocu
Playing is ongoing. Last session I got a pretty good cap increase and today was spent runnin' and gunnin' as per usual. Kept to the mid-western part of the map.
mirocu
Spur of the moment session yesterday. Kept around the middle part of the map, killing Deathclaws and even following an Outcast patrol around for awhile. After that I sold all I could in Rivet City and right now it's a new day outside Megaton and Gunny is ready to head out again.
mirocu
As the month of September is slowly coming to a close, me and Gunny are visiting Rivet City for more than just selling. Which btw is impossible now as we just emptied all vendors from caps quite recently laugh.gif

We will soon depart for the Dutchess Gambit and I will once more embark on an excursion in Point Lookout as we enter October. This time with Vengeance as my main weapon.
Renee
mirocu, have you done all those quests in Rivet City over the years?
mirocu
Most of them except the main quest ones, obviously. Since I'm rocu biggrin.gif
mirocu
I am now in Point Lookout. A little early but October is coming up so why wait biggrin.gif
Renee
February 23, 2278: Janet is in Fort Bannister with her Talon Company cronies, where she just picked up a Renee-added mission to "break in" a new TC recruit, taking him up to Sat Comm Nav Tower. This is not an easy feat, by the way. The idea is to bring the guy up there without him getting killed, first. And we all know how "eager" NPC followers in this game can be... whistling.gif

mirocu
Yes, but we all know how to tackle that; have him stay in a safe place and scout ahead. Unless of course you have scripted enemies to spawn when he specifically enters a cell. But I wouldn't think so?
Renee

Wow, you know my techniques well! -- No, no scripted enemies; the idea is merely to walk the guy from Bannister to Sat Comm, all the enemies along the way are the typical randoms: raiders, mutants, mirelurks, etc.

Yes, usually a lot of mine will tend to tell their follower(s) to wait while we scout ahead. Janet does this sometimes, but it's harder to accomplish when we're in the open world. There is an option for Failure as well as Success during this revolving quest.

mirocu
I have now made my way to the coastal grotto and Plik and I'm about to embark on yet another safari. Plenty of mines as usual as they are very helpful, and also Vengeance and a shotgun will assist me this year. I also expect the other two guys to help out as they are still there.
mirocu
Safari is done and was as always fun. Didn't have so many mines this time but plenty enough; even got to take some with me as I left.

Next stop was the detention camp and to my surprise there was no robot there, not even a destroyed one. There are always about three of them but this time only some ghouls. I also didn't find any activity around the Ritual site earlier and usually that place is packed. I have found however that if I return a bit later, there they are. I want to find them as one of them always has a slew of grenades biggrin.gif
Renee
Safari? Detention Camp? Mirocu must be somewhere I've never been before. I'm guessing one of the DLC.

Anyway, it's February 25, 2278: Janet was able to escort (no, not THAT kind of escort) the Talon Company recruit guy to SatComm Nav Tower. He got killed 3x along the way due to stupidity, but I reloaded all 3 times just because this is mod-testing!

Along the way from the tower she traveled vaguely southeast, trying to head to the Megaton area. Since she's never gone this way before she discovered 1). Silver Lining Drive-in (nothing there but a bunch of old rusted-out cars and a dirty screen), 2). A radio tower which I assume is mod-added, and 3). finally Paradise Falls.

This next part got really hairy because Janet HATES slavers. She choose all the dialog options which would guarantee getting into a fight with Grouse, but the thing is, she'd already placed a couple frag mines nearby. So Grouse didn't last long.

The rest of the battle (and that's exactly what it was, a one-woman battle against a bunch of losers) took the rest of the day and the entire night. She ate a Stealth Boy just before going into Paradise Falls Shopping Area, and then frantically began looking for the Slaver Pen. She attacked one of the slavers, but there were way too many slavers to fight at once.

So the brilliant plan: her invisibility chem was still in action, so she snuck across the plaza and into Eulogy Jones's Pad. ohmy.gif Killed Clover, killed Eulogy himself, and killed Crimson. By now the Boy had worn off. But now that she had the place to herself, she snuck outside on the upper level, and stuck the guy stationed there with her mod-added daggar. This poisoned the guy. Before he could react she ducked into Eulogy's upper level again and waited for the guy to keel over. indifferent.gif

From there, it was mostly a matter of waiting until her [DANGER] warning changed to [HIDDEN]. Once that happened, she'd sneak back onto the upper-level platform and pick off as many slavers as she could with her lazer rifle!

It was more complicated than that, but that's enough typing. Last I saw, she had pwned ALL of the slavers (outdoors, anyway) and is probably ready to free the slaves!

That's cool. Wow, not a word bout my one-woman siege of Paradise Falls. What's the point of even writing stuff up. *sigh*
mirocu
Don't feel bad. Many of my posts go unanswered too smile.gif

------------------------------

Currently on the docks in the Capital Wasteland with Gunny, prepared to run back home to Megaton and conclude this season. I was hoping to reach another 100.000 caps but fell short about 4000, mostly due to not enough sessions but also not enough vendors with enough caps.

When loading up the save at the detention camp today there they were again; two bots and more ghouls. Same thing at the Ritual site. No one last time but now plenty of them. One peculiar thing about the one with plenty of nades who's always there; when I went back and forth to his body he kept getting new ones. I took all of them but upon returning he had some more. Again and again! blink.gif I guess that's why he often ends up with like 40 grenades when I usually get to him. Anyway; next session will be the last for this year; keep the bubbly waiting!

April 13, 2279 Cho Zen Wan is hanging out in Tenpenny Tower, after accomplishing a mod-added task in RobCo Facility. He's been hanging out in Shakes's bar, Lydia's Boutique, and all the other general areas for hours now, in real-time. Gotta say, there's a lot of dialog I haven't heard, all sorts of conversations amongst the people who live here, and a lot of it's hilarious!

Edit: Cho's game has 364 hours, 8 minutes, and 35 seconds. Been playing since August of 2013. Compare that to an Oblivion game. Back in the day I put two OB games into A-bomb territory (which on PS3 is about 350 hours) within a few months' time each.
mirocu
I only spend time in Tenpenny to sell stuff so I haven't heard much convo other than the more basic stuff. Don't remember much about RobCo, haven't been there in years.

Is Cho your longest lasting character?
mirocu
I am now in Megaton.

Started out at the Dutchess Gambit and with Gunny in tow I basically just ran straight back home, dispersing only the odd raider along the way. Sold off what little I had left to sell and then got things in order in my home. Healed up and then slept for three days.

And with that, the 2023 season has conluded. Well met in 2024! viking.gif
Renee
Well my Fallout 3 season continues. tongue.gif

Friday, April 23, 2279: Cho Zen Wan is finally heeding the strange radio broadcast he received probably two years ago (game time) which will ultimately send him to Aid the Outcasts. Yep, he's headed for Anchorage. Although not really, right? Operation Anchorage is some sort of simulation, right?

Guess we'll find out. ❄

03.03.78, 19:58: Janet just emerged from Friendship Heights Metro where all those raiders like to hang out. Just laid down a couple frag mines, now she's going to shoot one of the raiders, as covertly as she can. emot-ninja1.gif Cho Zen Wan is a pro at this sort of thing; he's usually way more prepared for battle than she is. But she does okay. 👱🏾‍♀️

Ultimately she's headed to Takoma Park, which is really tricky to figure out how to get to. Pretty sure she's headed in the right direction. But damn, the nerves! She's never been in this section of the CW before (well, she's been here in Friendship, but not anywhere to the east) and I can't remember what's in the direction. So it's like we're both heading into blind territory. indifferent.gif

When you say this section of the CW, it makes me think you are watching the current Superman TV show for the first time.

BREAKING NEWS

Wednesday, 05.12.78, 1:37 PM: Cho Zen Wan found Dogmeat, wandering around near Rivet City. I've been playing Cho's game since 2013. Not sure if he ever met the dog before, but he must've right? Because Dogmeat is usually found somewhere else. 🐶

Anyway, Cho's decided to have the dog follow him around, along with his three-man C-team. Whoa to any who cross their path!

mirocu
Rivet City? I found Dogmeat at the scrapyard huh.gif

And yes! Today was the start of the 2024 season! Took Gunny along as usual and quickly got overencumbered, as usual... tongue.gif
Just running around atm, getting my bearings. And again I have to complain about the ammo cap of the minigun. Seriously, when you have seven Deathclaws all lumped together all you want to do is spray and pray. But that spraying is quickly interrupted by the annoying reloading after which the Deathclaws have dispersed and can no longer be swiftly dealt with. I cannot fathom why they hardwired that ammo cap into their engine like that instead of just having it limitless *sigh*

Renee
Awesum, glad Mirocu has rejoined Janet and Cho. You're complaining about reloading? That's easy to change; literally find the weapon in the GECK, and probably only need to change one setting, or flag the gun so there is no limit. But I know you ain't gonna do that. tongue.gif

In Janet's game it is March 29, 2278 (ahem, her Pipgirl's display is currently purple). She just discovered Fordham Flash Memorial Field, which is a baseball diamond. Baseball, there are four bases to run around, and currently there's a raider running to each base, around and around the diamond, as though he's wacked-out on Psycho. panic.gif

I checked Fandom to make sure this is vanilla, and sure enough one of the raiders does run from base to base.

"By sneaking up to the field unnoticed and managing to stay undetected, one can observe the raiders playing "baseball," which consists of one or more of the raiders continuously running the bases."

Well Janet doesn't have to sneak, since she's wearing raider armor, they think she's "one of them". So playing 'baseball' is what the two raiders are doing as she approaches.

I mentioned this thing way back at Bethsoft and someone told me that due to how Bethesda had coded the game it was impossible to change the ammo cap. This guy kindly enough made a couple of custom mods for me and he explained how he couldn't make a mod that addressed that issue because it was hardwired into the game mechanics. He did however make a mod for the Vulcan minigun mod (modception!) that made it shoot straight and way faster than the vanilla version and thus much closer to the real thing. This of course eats up ammo faster than I scarf down a semla which is why the ammo cap is so annoying.
Renee
Yep, he's right, sort of . Just tried it myself. Went into the Items > Weapon section, found WeapMinigun. By default Clip Rounds is 240. I changed it to 999, clicked OK. But when I went back into the same gun now it says 255.

So yeah that's a hard code alright. Slightly higher than 240, but certainly not much more! Sorry for misleading.
mirocu
No problem smile.gif

Yup that's what he said too about the ammo cap and what I have in the game; 255.

Had a pretty good run today. When at Old Olney I accidentally fell through a grate and had to go through the sewers in order to get back up on the streets again. While down there I lockpicked a Hard Lock door I hadn't been able to lockpick in my early days. I haven't been back until now since I prefer to run around outside. I also could have hacked a computer and released a Protectron but opted to keep it pristine in its case happy.gif

Oh, and I also finally got another 100.000 caps and am now up to 600.000 caps total. Have already started working on the next 100.000 biggrin.gif
Renee
Yeah, I know that grate you speak of, Cho fell into one while doing Broken Steel.

But Wait, so what happened? There are normally deathclaws down in Old Olney, and I'm almost positive they respawn. So did Mirocu have to deal with those? indifferent.gif

Funny thing: in real-life, Olney is a unadventurous, respectable town where nothing much happens! Is never in the news like Baltimore or D.C. is, here are some examples.

I've been switching from Janet to Cho each week, with Sunday being the cut-off. Cho was last week. He is in the process of Rebuilding the Wasteland, literally that's the name of the mod. The idea is: once Broken Steel is done, he gets called to Andrews Air Force Base (which is taken over by the Brotherhood) to "help" rebuild the wasteland. Super Duper Mart and several other places get rebuilt into something other than raider / monster hangouts. The catch is, Cho must donate almost all the caps he makes, since he is literally, probably the only person making significant amounts of money other than probably Tenpenny.

So while Mirocu is making mad amounts of cash, Cho is still one paycheck away from poverty at all times!

Yeah, and that was the point of going to Old Olney. Falling through the grate wasn't, but no biggie. It meant I got to see an area I haven't seen in years and kill more Deathclaws biggrin.gif

Like many others, I had the urge to create a new Courier and enjoy the Mojave again. New Vegas is a really fun game and grabbed me in a way that 3 just wasn't able to. My new character (James) just wiped out some Legion scum at a raiding camp and cleared out nearby Broc Flower Cave.

The rodents of an unusual size were tougher than I remembered!
mirocu
New Vegas does have an atmosphere that differs from 3, and I haven't even played Vegas! Similar and yet so different.

Think I know what you mean there, Kaneyboi. Vegas is bright and cheerful whilst 3 is dark and melancholy. But that's exactly why I like it biggrin.gif
Renee
I like to think of Fallout 3 as post-apocalyptic, and New Vegas as ... not so much so. The lore hounds (especially those who think FO3 is "not a true Fallout game") point out that 200 years after the war D.C. would not be as torn up as what's portrayed in-game, as though the war happened just a few years ago; there'd be at least some development back toward the way society was. rolleyes.gif

I'm inclined to disagree. Without heavy machinery especially, ability to draw fossil fuels so that generators/bulldozers/cranes (etc.) as well as larger populations of learned people who know how to use all that stuff, there's no way the Wasteland can be built up even partially to where it was. Also, I like to assume that up until recently, the CW has been too irradiated and/or full of monsters, to the point where what we're seeing in-game (populations of raiders and wastelanders returning) is somewhat of a recent thing.

However, I do believe foliage would come back. Trees and grasses would return. It's Maryland/Virginia/D.C., I live here! and the flora is pretty lush, especially if we're talking grasses & weeds. If animals can return (okay... monsters) than so can plants, which would adapt to the extra rads. So lately I have been adding some minimal examples of green into my game.

Overall, I find FO3 to be more "fun", especially with humor which is both intentional and unintentional. New Vegas is the more "serious" game, which sticks closer to the lore found in FO1 & 2. My opinions, of course. But to point an example, I find myself laughing & rolling on my bed in stitches any time a robobrain begins trying to find my character! Or some of the PreWar billboards in the from the past, which extol how wonderful life is supposed to be. I almost never actually laugh while playing New Vegas, not that the game should be a comedy. It should not. I'm just outlining why I enjoy 3 more.

[AHEM] on topic. rolleyes.gif Yea, I know. rolleyes.gif Did some gaming with Janet Telia yesterday, she's headed toward Old Olney to take care of Old Macdonald, an NPC added by Lopov's Enemies of the Wastes. She's been to Old Olney before, there's NO WAY she's going back in there, for obvious reasons. So instead she's been trying to skirt around the place, keeping well away from any deathies which happen to stray outside their usual zones.
SubRosa
Years ago I started using a mod for FO3 that adds a lot of green foliage to the entire place. As we know from long term studies around Chernobyl, some tree and plant species will die within days of high radiation exposure. But most will not, and some will thrive. Not necessarily because of the radiation, but because the humans are no longer around. The same with animals.

I also have a mod that adds little farm patches to the settlements in the Capital Wasteland. Basically just patches of corn within them to show that people are doing some subsistence farming. That also feels more right.

When you call it the CW I keep thinking of Supergirl and the Flash... biggrin.gif

Oooh, can you let me know the names of those greenery mods? Is Greenworld one of them? If so, I've got Greenworld already, although I'm not turning it "on" until summer. cool.gif

Janet just arrived to MacDonald's Farm, and just witnessed Old MacDonald (or one of his guards ) getting attacked by TWO radscorps! 🦂 Cho already did this quest before but he botched it. He did not save the Regulator gal he was supposed to save. Janet, hopefully, will get things right.
