Aha! My mom called ours "Mock Shepherd's Pie" sometimes, I'll bet that was when she made it with beef, lol.

My last cat was much worse, she used to pull all kinds of pranks on me and on the dogs. I can't count the number of times I screamed in the night because I was trying to tiptoe to the bathroom and not wake anyone, and she popped out from no where and grabbed my ankles, then ran away making a sound that I swear sounded like laughing as I was shrieking from surprise - it didn't hurt when she grabbed my ankle, it tickled - but I was tensed. knowing the cat was plotting to get me but not knowing where it would strike. And sometimes she would let me get to the bathroom and then nab me on my way back to bed.

Sometimes she would hide and pop out from behind or under something as you were walking through the house; just to startle you. But I could get her back on that one, if I saw her walking toward the kitchen I could hide behind the dining room wall and watch her reflection coming in the stove window. When she got close I'd pop out (just like she did to me) and she would jump in the air.

She did that to the dogs too, she kept my Rottweiler all torn up by popping out on him.

She was MUCH worse than our cat now!

That was at the old house, and it had ledges over the doorways between rooms. The cat used to get up on the ledges sometimes and you would be walking underneath in the dark trying not to wake the whole house - and she would drop down onto your head and make that laughing noise while I was screaming my head off.

And if I was playing a board or card game, she would suddenly charge across the room and stop in the middle of the board or card game and start spinning around, throwing cards or game pieces everywhere. She was always pulling some prank.

She used to lean down off high stuff and swat the tar out of the Rottweiler's ears as he walked underneath her, and more than once I caught her chasing him through the house.

She used to tempt him to climb the steps when he was a puppy, then when he was a few steps up she would smack him and make him tumble down them. And he never gave up trying to follow her up the steps no matter how many times she did that. (till he got big enough that she couldn't smack him down the steps and he could climb them easily).

She was awful, but a lot of fun too. I mean, she messed with us, and if we messed with her back she got even with us for it big time, lol. It made you think twice before doing some prank on her back for anything she did, laugh.gif

But we never had a boring moment while she lived, that is for sure.

Okay, here is a piece of great news:

I went to one of those consignment stores near my son's new house to see if I could get him some decent dishes for a fair price; and found a full container of 20 matching serving sets of stainless flatware - it came in a tray and looked completely new/never used; and even had several serving pieces as well!

The only problem was that the handles looked really strange, like they were supposed to be covered in plastic but had been sneaked out of the factory before the coating was put on the handles.

Here is a picture of the handles:

IPB Image

Well, I guess that is what everyone thought that saw them, because she was having trouble selling them. So she sold me the whole entire raft of them for 20 dollars. They obviously had never been used, so handles or not, I grabbed them.

I was washing them for him yesterday, and saw the name "Towle Stainless" etched into them; so I showed it to my son. He looked it up on the internet, and it turns out they are made like that, it is Towle's "Aperto" model of flatware - one of their more expensive lines.

It turns out that the flatware I bought him was worth upwards of 2,000 dollars!

So WOO HOO !!!!!! If he ever needs collateral for a small loan, he has it now, lol.

Here is a good example: one gravy ladle, this one is used for 25.00 for just the one used and scratched piece!

http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/qGcAAOSw3ydVi1Dm/s-l1600.jpg

I can see the scratches in that ladle too, my son's set has never been used, each piece is pristine.

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTAxNFgxMzg3/z/P...Vj/$_1.JPG

They are ugly, right? Is it just me? Well, for 20 dollars I didn't care if they were ugly, they were shiny and clean and I figured he could get a better set later. Who would pay thousands for flatware this ugly? But it is modern, and my son likes that.

mirocu
Blimey, krikey, OīRielly, you really made a good deal there! The whole set is worth 2000 dollars but you got it for 20?? ohmy.gif blink.gif panic.gif Even if they were hard to sell, how could the store take such a huge loss?

It was a place people bring their unwanted used items and leave them to be sold. This set had never been used, it could have been a wedding gift for someone who didn't realize its value; and the lady at the store didn't know its value either. I didn't know it, and if it wasn't selling I'd say no one else did either. It just looks weird and kind of ugly by the handles; but the part you eat off of looks beautiful! It is high gloss and really fine stainless at that end, and that is what caught my eye.

Yeah, it was most def a good deal. And who buys place settings for 20? But I'm kind of glad there are that many. This way - if he wants to; my son can sell half of them and still have enough for his own use (or sell them all and buy a regular set of flatware at WallyWorld, laugh.gif )

ghastley
No the set is priced at $2000, but is worth $20. Because that's all anyone would pay for it.

However, as mALX points out Manufacturer's Recommended Price may be used when valuing for insurance or loan purposes, so that's the way to use it.

MALX, what a wonderfully practical set of flatware! Each person can put a knife, fork and spoon on a dogtag neckchain and never be without. And if you ever get into financial trouble, you can sell off some of it for cash. tongue.gif

AHA! I knew there had to be some practical purpose for the holes in the handles! The new fad in jewelry, a fork around your neck! Especially useful if your mother has tied a pork chop around your neck to get the dog to play with you, you can beat the rascally dog to the meat!

Just firing it up can be bad for it. If you don't let the whole system (especially the exhaust) get up to normal working temperature, you can get condensation rusting out the pipes. And that usually means some time on the road to give it a proper work-out, as there's no load if you're just stationary. nono.gif

I do let it become hot in order to let moisture vaporize and to let the oil and cooling circle around thoroughly. Maybe around ten minutes or so on idle with the occasional rev. Better than not doing it in any case as I found out. One winter I didnīt bother and I ended up with a clogged up carburetor due to the gasoline vaporizing and leaving behind a crystilline smudge. Not fun wacko.gif
