In retrospect, drinking three cups of coffee in quick succession may not have been the cleverest thing to do.

At least not if you plan on doing eye surgery soon, as the surgeon! tongue.gif

When I had to get my eyes operated upon, the surgeon I had told me he doesn´t drink coffee for at least 24 hours before the procedure. It´s very important to have a steady hand then as one can imagine mellow.gif

Yeah, I can imagine it would be. But it's an even worse idea to do eye surgery using the Force.

Huh?

I wanna do some writing but I don't know where I'd post it,I couldn't post it here because I don't want to do fantasy for the moment because I'm getting bored of it.

I might do modern or sci-fi.
ImperialSnob
I've decided to undertake a big task, actually finish a god damn story.

I feel I never finished Eldwin's Challenger(I probaly will some time) because I'm bored of fantasy,I never really wrote anything diffrent.

I'm going to do a sci-fi/cyberpunk story and I'm going to also read more,so I'll be reading sci-fi/cyberpunk books and graphic novels.

Wish me luck!

Essential reading/watching material:

Neuromancer and Johnny Mnemonic, by William Gibson; it's generally regarded as the first Cyberpunk novel so it's a must-read
Ghost in the Shell; get past the off writing and you've got a film that embodies the Cyberpunk aesthetic absolutely perfectly
Shadowrun Core Rulebook; probably the best RPG rulebook ever, it's got a whole ton of background, artwork and stories for the game's cyberpunk setting, plus you can get your friends together for a game. It's dead fun.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, by Philip K. Dick; this is basically proto-cyberpunk, so it's another 'historic' piece of cyberpunk fiction. Also, Blade Runner was adapted from it, and while the two are very, very different it's still worth seeing Blade Runner
Akira; not strictly cyberpunk, but it's got a good cyberpunk aesthetic to it and is a pretty good movie anyway
Cyberpunk; the short story by Bruce Bethke which coined the term
Ack-Ack Macaque, by Gareth L. Powell; it mixes steampunk up into its aesthetic as well, but it covers a lot of the core themes of Cyberpunk fiction (especially transhumanism) and is a bloody fun read
Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Human Revolution; give Invisible War a miss, but these two are generally regarded as the best cyberpunk videogames out there. I can't vouch for Shadowrun Returns as I haven't played it yet, but that's supposed to be good as well.

Hope that might be useful, and best of luck! smile.gif

So, any of you remember that cone? So much easier than doing object rotation via click and drag. This has been a day and I have something wonky at best.

I just wrote the phrase 'dim sun' in the sci-fi novel I'm working on and now I can't stop giggling...

The government has the ability to shut down our beloved interwebs any time they want. They won't do it because there would be far reaching implications.

The government shutdown was over the so called "Affordable Health Care Act". Democrats want it, Republicans don't. On my end the Affordable Care Act is already no good. There have been major changes to the way health care works that have caused layoffs in the health care industry. We've also begun to see premiums rise for insurance coverage.
Elisabeth Hollow
Come next year, I won't be able to afford my own health care, and I'll be fined for it.

It's so much fun being poor. How do they think we're gonna be able to pay for [censored] if they keep raising cost of living, keeping our paygrade down, fining us for every tiny thing and making it impossible to ever drag ourselves out of debt?

Hey I hear ya Liz. I'm going to be in a similar boat

I hold very little love for either party (elitist born rich politicians) but in the case of the Affordable Care Act, the blame has to go on the Dems that drafted it.
Zalphon
I hate to be the Devil's Advocate, but you are all just mad because the Government isn't pampering you like it always does.

HA! Had you all going, didn't I?

Honestly, this shut-down is a crock of Khajiit Crap (meaning it's psychedelic kitty crap). Cut their payroll and watch how fast this is handled.
Elisabeth Hollow
Right?! I'd love to see them do their work on my pay. How quickly things would change then.
Zalphon
Cut their pay until our debt has a payment plan, unemployment and poverty is non-existent, and Government Assistance is unnecessary...

I give them a week.

Welcome to the world of democrazy. I mean, everyone say we live in one so I assume y´all voted things to be this way.

Right? huh.gif

Just out of interest, does everyone you know who voted but not general healthcare also have health insurance?
Astien Roux
The only shortcoming I perceive in the ACA; or Obamacare as it's known colloquially, is despite that we as Americans have no form of UHC, or Universal Health Care, we in fact pay more in taxes per capita towards health care to begin with then any other first world civilized nation.

This is because we don't embrace our true nature of capitalism, and force private providers to bid and offer their services at a lower set of premiums. Even Cuba does this, and they are staunchly "communist". Hence why you can purchase an inhaler for 75 cents that would cost you nearly two hundred in the States.

This is in fact a result of monopoly and...well,..corruption.

ACA is a step forward, however blind and baby in nature it is. Those who wish to extoll the virtues of a capitalist system and are so quick to point it out, overlook the fact that every first world nation in the world already has UHC, despite being capitalist. It does not override a simple fact that there is still room and a need for private providers, and moreso having a private provider allows for competition which would in fact keep prices down.

This can be seen in the rivalry between the United States Postal Service and United Parcel Service and Federal Express.

People who say that their tax dollars should not be used to care for those who don't have the sense or means to purchase their own insurance, are in fact professing their own ignorance.

They already do.

Emergency Rooms under a very strict set of Federal Laws cannot refuse care to those who seek it, and to help ensure the continuing function of these ER's they are provided a very generous stipend from the same Federal Government, as well as a high percentage of tax breaks at the end of the year for the hundreds of unpaid claims they rack up.

Further, the argument that says 'my tax dollars' should not go to Health Care, is much like saying that because people get into car accidents, my tax dollars shouldn't pave the roads.

At least in my view.
Kiln
This is all just another way for the Feds to step into the lives of individuals and tell them how to live.

Don't want health insurance? Too bad, get it or get fined. We are the government, we are here to help. We know what is best for you. Do not think. Obey.
ImperialSnob
Why don't they just give free health care?

Too much complexity within the 'system' and the entanglements of the United States of Corporatism.

The Republicans who have 'shut down' the government have done the bidding of their lobbyists who pay them in the sum of millions via PAC's and likely other means.

In turn, those lobbyists answer to the corporations that stand to lose hundreds of millions; if not billions, if the people have access to affordable health care. Using individual ambition to overcome what is common sense to benefit the people.

This is a precise example of 'runaway capitalism' and the tactics of a Monopoly who senses competition.

Whenever a situation seems needless or complex, you have but to ask yourself: "Who profits from this?" and then you will have your answer as to why it is.

It's satire. Stupid, not very clever satire that thinks it's much cleverer than it is, but satire nonetheless. I generally want to punch people who wear it and tell them to go read some Voltaire.
